Tip for Truckers: Festive Wellbeing on the Road

The Wiltshire IAPT team has teamed up with Chippenham Pitstop to offer mental wellbeing tips to long distance drivers in the run up to the festive period.

Lisa Hatherell 250Lisa Hatherell of the Pitstop said, “Around 300 drivers use the Pitstop each day and we encourage them to look after their health and wellbeing. We highlight a different health theme each month and the run-up to Christmas seemed like a good time to highlight the importance of mental health. We contacted AWP, our local NHS mental health provider, for their advice.”

Lindsay George of the Wiltshire IAPT service, which provides self-referral psychological therapies in local communities, said, “Christmas and New Year can be incredibly stressful in many and varied ways: the pressure to achieve festive perfection, financial pressures, family stresses or loneliness. But for long distance drivers all these worries can be compounded by spending long periods of time away from home and feeling detached from family preparations – or even the celebrations themselves. When Lisa contacted us we were delighted to provide some tips for the Pitstop’s customers.”

The tips are available to drivers at the Chippenham Pitstop, which is just off junction 17 of the M4, and on AWP's Don't Ignore Your Mental Health webpage.

The Chippenham Pitstop, which was refurbished earlier this year, provides a range of services for local people as well as long distance drivers including a café, meeting room and the Draycot Store which stocks a range of local produce.
